How much time should I schedule for a newborn session?
Newborns are unpredictable, which is why newborn photography requires years of experience, education, and patience. The goal for every newborn session is to create Pinterest-worthy images that show off your unique newborn. The priority of every newborn session is your baby’s safety and comfort. I set aside 2-3 hours for newborn sessions in the studio to give newborns plenty of time to get comfy and give us a chance to try multiple props and poses.
PLEASE book as early as possible to secure a session time, preferably in your second trimester. To allow plenty of time for newborn sessions, I take a limited number of sessions per month based on estimated due dates. After two weeks, babies become more awake and alert. Sessions are planned for the first 14 days of your newborn’s life to get those perfectly sleepy, squishy baby photos.
How far in advance should I schedule newborn portraits?
Maternity sessions are often best when you’re around 28-32 weeks when your beautiful belly is showing but you’re not too uncomfortable. For maternity portraits, we can plan for a private studio session or outdoors in the Mt. Sterling area (locations outside Mt. Sterling require a travel fee.) Please schedule your maternity photo as soon as possible so that can pick the perfect day and time.

For your newborn, bring any supplies you might need like bottles, diapers, etc. You can also bring in any special outfits if you’d like. I have a constantly growing collection of headbands, hats, bonnets, wraps, and more! I’ll ask you about specific colors or themes ahead of time and and set up stations in the studio so we can move smoothly from one setup to the next.
Before our session, I’ll share helpful tips for preparing you and your baby that will make our time together relaxing and productive. Newborns are unpredictable, which is why I set aside so much time for each newborn session. I’ve been working with newborns and new moms for years, so rest assured – you’re in good hands!
What if my newborn doesn’t cooperate for photos?
To ensure your printed portraits look just as amazing for generations as they do the day they’re printed, I offer fine art prints that are perfectly color-corrected and printed on high quality paper or canvas. You can even order professionally designed birth announcements to simplify your life and introduce your newborn to family and friends.
Sessions come with high resolution files and printing rights so you can store them safely on your computer and print whenever you like!
